Sterility is not a calamity:

In vitro fertilization aims at overcoming difficulties in conceiving that some couples may encounter for many reasons (insufficient ovulation, obstructed fallopian tubes, limited number of sperm…).

IVFconsists in replicating in a laboratory the oocytes fecundation by the sperm, a step that naturally happens in the fallopian tubes. Once the embryos are formed, they will be transferred to the uterus so that the pregnancy can take its natural course.

What is in vitro fertilization?

IVF is an assisted reproduction technique where the man's sperm and the woman's egg are united in a capsule in a laboratory, where the insemination is made. The embryo that comes out from this operation is transferred to the uterus of the woman.

The basic steps in the IVF treatment cycle are:

• Ovulation induction (stimulating the development of more than one egg in a cycle)
